Job title: Sports Psychologist  

Department: Blackburn Rovers Women Football Club Ltd.

Location: BRFC Academy, Old Langho, Blackburn, BB6 8BA. Flexibility regarding location is required.

Reports to: Women's Head Coach

Hours of work: 10 hours per week plus any additional hours necessary for the performance of duties. This will include regular evening and weekend work.

Contractual status: Permanent 

Job purpose: To provide support and expertise in the area of sport psychology to all players and coaches, ensuing they are well prepared to deal with their roles and perform to their full potential.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • To be committed to ensuring the safeguarding and welfare of all elite players, promoting their well-being needs whilst maintaining professional boundaries;
  • To develop and implement a ‘psychological philosophy’ across the department;
  • To measure and monitor the psychological development of the players;
  • Write and deliver psychology themed workshops;
  • To provide one to one player support when necessary;
  • To provide coach feedback and support;
  • To be reactive to the needs of the personnel at the club; and
  • To work proactively with the Safeguarding Officer to support the wellbeing of the players and staff

Skills required:

  • Proficient in IT including Microsoft packages and email;
  • Excellent presentation skills and a confident public speaker;
  • The ability to listen and assess situations appropriately;
  • Commitment and ability to promote safeguarding children and sports equity principles;
  • The ability to work enthusiastically as part of the staff team that includes coaches, sport scientists, and physiotherapists;
  • Ability to communicate effectively in different situations with people from diverse backgrounds; and
  • Able to work independently and prioritise own workload, liaising with the Women’s Head Coach on a regular basis.
Knowledge required:
  • An in-depth of knowledge in sport psychology;
  • Knowledge of football, football academies, and other areas of sport science; and
  • Knowledge and understanding of child protection and safeguarding procedures and protocols.

Qualifications required:

  • MSc in Sport Psychology or related field or working towards (essential);
  • BASES or BPS Accredited (or within a year of completion);
  • FA Safeguarding (essential).
DBS check required: Yes (enhanced)
