As Senior Consumer Marketing Manager, you will have the fan at the heart of everything you do. You will play a pivotal role in driving awareness and consideration of our fan products and experiences, bringing fans closer to the action than ever before. You will have experience in transforming digital through storytelling based on an in-depth understanding of our fans and audiences.

The Role:

With the Head of Consumer Marketing, you will help shape and deliver growth and audience development strategies, creating propositions and initiatives across maturing and developing football markets globally through innovation and challenging the status quo.
You will be responsible for the creation and delivery of marketing strategy and initiatives across our fan products and experiences, including the Manchester United App, MUTV, manutd.com, membership, ticketing and hospitality, ecommerce and much more. You will also develop and build new global audiences and re-engage valuable known audiences, marketing our content franchise.
Working as part of an internal agency, you will collaborate with colleagues across the club, building strong relationships data & analytics, CRM, content, commercial, ecommerce, product and technology.

Key responsibilities include:

Growth marketing

  • Support the Head of Consumer Marketing with the development of growth strategies aligned with our wider direct to consumer (DTC) strategy, products and experiences.
  • Identify, define and drive innovative commercial marketing strategies that will drive growth of our existing and launch of new products and experiences globally and locally.
  • Independently build business cases to analyse new strategic ideas, through meticulous analysis of internal data and market benchmarks.
  • Collaborate with various functional teams to turn ideas into reality and drive delivery.
  • Led the marketing campaigns team and play an active role with product owners in defining product, price, place and promotion across fan products and experiences.
  • Lead the seasonal marketing calendar and working closely with the Content team, help define our value proposition across owned and operated platforms.
  • Clearly present ideas and findings to a wide range of collaborators, including senior leadership.
  • Evaluate and optimise return on investment across the full funnel and marketing mix including owned and operated platforms, social, CRM and marketing channels.
  • Lead on monthly and quarterly marketing reviews including insights, data, campaigns and activation performance.

Audience development and insights

  • Define an audience development strategy that creates new propositions and initiatives across maturely and developing football markets internationally.
  • Identify key fan and consumer insights and champion an audience-led approach, creating marketing initiatives across the full funnel to deliver our world class products and experiences direct to consumers globally and locally.


High performance and effective campaigns

  • Develop and embed our direct to consumer positioning for the club’s digital products and experiences including app registration and subscription, ticketing and hospitality, ecommerce and more.
  • Build strong narratives and craft compelling campaign messaging leveraged across all consumer touch point, working closely with both internal creative teams and third party agencies.
  • Create and deliver world class, high performing and effective campaigns, leveraging the full marketing mix and every stage of the funnel, bringing in new audiences to engage and monetise.

People and team

  • Build, nurture and develop a brilliant team of talented consumer marketers, creating a centre of excellence that is agile and adaptive to our audiences and business needs in a fast paced and evolving sports and entertainment industry.
  • Collaborate with key internal teams on insights & data, brand & comms strategy, creative and planning & operations to ensure the quality development and execution of integrated marketing plans that deliver against club objectives.


The Person:

  • Significant marketing experience, preferably background in sports, entertainment or publishing.
  • Previous management role and/or leadership role.
  • An excellent understanding of fan and consumer engagement, digital products and interactive entertainment.
  • Experience of leading on the development and delivery of high performing marketing strategies.
  • A solid understanding of global markets, data management, behavioural segmentation, engagement and LTV.
  • Great analytical skills, commercially savvy and solution focused.
  • An innovative mindset with a positive outlook who is creative in finding solutions to complex challenges.
  • Ability to think both strategically and operationally, delivering the day to day while shaping future direction.
  • Self-starter and growth mindset with an ability to challenge the status quo.
  • Collaborative team player with excellent influence and interpersonal skills to create strong working relationships.
  • Adaptable, flexible and resilient.
