The role holder will be pivotal in driving the ongoing development and delivery of player-centered, evidence-informed individual development, review and grading processes within MCFC Boys’ Academy and across CFG Clubs.

Purpose:

Group Talent seeks to drive and embed player-centred, evidence-informed Talent Management practices across all relevant CFG platforms, in order to enable optimised development and progression for all our players.

The Player Insight Lead will play a crucial role in driving optimised Talent Management practices within MCFC Boys’ Academy and other development programmes within CFG. The role-holder will be responsible for driving the seasonal cycle of multidisciplinary player review, grading and ILP development within MCFC Boys’ Academy, and connecting the insight gained from this to the wider system to ensure an aligned approach to player development which puts individual player needs at the heart of the decision-making process.

Ideal candidates for this role will be those with an integrated approach to understanding player development, which values both expertise and data, and those who can operate with impact within a fast-paced, high-performing environment. The post-holder will be a key stakeholder in understanding, informing and optimising the developmental journeys of our players and this role presents an outstanding opportunity for the right candidate to play a critical role in driving innovation and excellence in this domain.

Role specific accountabilities:

Lead the continual development and implementation of evidence-informed Talent Profiling, Individual Development planning and Progression Mapping for MCFC Boys’ Academy players

Collaborate with senior stakeholders to drive a meaningful connection between MCFC Academy Talent Profiling and preparation for senior pathways (youth to senior transitions)

Collaborate with relevant CFG programmes and partners in the design and ongoing delivery of effective, multidisciplinary talent profiles

Drive the end-to-end process of regular player grading within MCFC Academy and other relevant CFG programmes, including effective stakeholder meeting facilitation and reporting of relevant depth charts and insights

Contribute to the generation of annual strategic reporting insights across MCFC Boys’ Academy and Group Football

Ensure player development plans within relevant programmes are regularly reviewed, evidence-based and meaningfully aligned to position-specific talent profiles

Role specific knowledge, skills and experience:

Essential:

  • Thorough, demonstrable understanding of the key principles of talent profiling and development in elite sporting pathways
  • Experience of collaborating effectively with coaches, practitioners and other key stakeholders in an elite sporting environment
  • Creativity, passion, and curiosity in regard to gaining and applying insights to drive decision-making.
  • Highly effective in data management, with a strong understanding of the importance of effective ongoing data capture and storage
  • Ability to deliver with impact within a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, and the ability to engage with and inform a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Excellent planning and project management skills, and the ability to deliver across multiple workstreams.
  • Postgraduate degree in any relevant discipline

Desirable:

  • Thorough understanding of the principles of performance and potential in elite sport, and ability to effectively discriminate between them
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering evidence-informed, insight-driven interventions within elite sport
  • Experience of working within an elite football environment
  • Fluency in English +1 other language (French, Spanish, Portugese or Italian)
