The Football Association [The FA] is the not-for-profit governing body of football in England. It is responsible for promoting and developing every level of the game, from grassroots through to the professional game, and generates significant revenue to support investment into English football each year.

The Role

  • Support the design and lead all pilots of the new FA disability programme for schools and community settings
  • Support the evolution of existing women and girls' programmes, Shooting Stars, Game On, Wildcats and Squad
  • Support the research and conceptualisation of behaviour change interventions for the football landscape
  • Support action research and testing to understand challenges, barriers, and effective practice in relation to tackling inequalities in football participation and workforce development

Key Accountabilities

Results Orientation and Visionary Thinking

  • Be relentless in the search for knowledge and understanding of the issues and opportunities which exist in grassroots football, to improve transition and progression through the pathways
  • Ensure our interventions and programmes are relevant, cutting edge, impactful and responsive to the changing needs of the football population and that the 'voice' of young people and adults is heard in the design of new product solutions
  • Develop creative and innovative solutions to remove the barriers or exploit the opportunities that exist in grassroots football participation
  • Drive inclusion across all product solutions finding new ways to ensure they are fully accessible, for those with disabilities
  • Support the development of interventions, resources, training materials and be responsible for undertaking effective piloting of new football programmes (ensuring alignment with FA Technical)
  • Support the delivery of training interventions for grassroots football and CFA staff
  • Support the conceptualisation of specialist interventions and approaches for grassroots clubs and County Football Associations

Teamwork

  • Contribute and maintain effective communication with Pathway and Programme Managers to ensure new interventions are developed to achieve maximum impact and drive transformational change
  • Support the design, development, and piloting stages of new programmes/interventions to ensure feasibility of implementation

Relationships and Influence

  • Develop strong relationships with County Football Associations Football Development Officers and Grassroots Clubs
  • Develop a strong network of experts and remain up to date with effective practice (nationally and internationally) and identify domestic solutions that can improve grassroots football participation
  • Provide expert knowledge and creativity to internal colleagues and external organisations, keeping the FA at the cutting edge of football development by understanding the challenges faced by early, development and adult participants
  • Execute additional tasks as required in order to meet FA Group changing priorities

What we are looking for

Essential:

  • Skilled and practiced at using creative and innovative thinking
  • Ability to manage, prioritise and complete work across multiple streams and deadlines
  • Ability to design and create football practices that meet the needs of the football pathways
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders
  • Experience of designing training events for adults
  • Demonstrate creative delivery approaches to diverse audiences
  • Experience of County Football Associations, primary and secondary education, and grassroots football
  • UEFA C: Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Football
  • Possess a progressive approach to coaching, teaching, and learning

Desirable:

  • Experience and understanding of the Male, Female and Disability pathways
  • Experience of research which exemplifies the voice of the child
  • Understanding of how to use research to inform the creation of interventions
  • Experience and understanding of creating business simulations and learning activities for adults
  • Knowledge and understanding of Football Development
  • Knowledge and understanding of the technical requirements of football at various ages, stages, and pathways

A full clean driving licence is required.

Please be aware that unless you are on a homebased contract, your contract with The FA will specify a fixed location of either Wembley Stadium, St. George's Park or our Processing Centre.

We currently work within a hybrid working model whereby the expectation is to work from your contractual location for part of the week, and as and when required by the team. The remaining days can be worked remotely. We will continue to monitor this model and it may be adjusted in future if deemed necessary.
