Job summary

West Ham United Foundation (WHUF) is seeking an Education Officer to lead the delivery of our newly launched Employ Me London programme and support our Premier League Inspires Programme. We’re delighted to be able to create an exciting opportunity for a passionate and driven individual to support SEND young people in securing long-term education, employment and training opportunities over the next two years, whilst engaging in mentoring support activities for Secondary School students.

The successful candidate will have a passion for working with young people with learning difficulties/disabilities and proven commitment to improving the lives of young people from diverse backgrounds. They will be able to operate as a job coach, mentor and educator to support local young people through the programmes.

In addition, the successful candidate will also support the development and delivery of wider programmes within the Foundation, where required.

This programme is a key element of WHU Foundation’s mission to facilitate community cohesion, social mobility, raise aspirations and achievement amongst young people, and promote individual success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver high quality and safe weekly sessions and workshops for young people aged 16- 24 yrs with learning difficulties/disabilities.
  • Plan and deliver appropriate and engaging sessions that consider the needs of SEND individuals.
  • Providing one-to-one support, using a case worker model.
  • Use peer mentoring, ambassadors and other positive role models to engage and inspire participants.
  • Deliver a range of personal development and life skills workshops.
  • Source appropriate opportunities for employment, training and education.
  • Ensure delivery outputs and outcomes are aligned with project KPIs:
    • Recruitment of 33 eligible young people (16-24 years) within the first 15 months of the programme
    • Minimum of 50% participant progression into employment, education or training
    • Minimum of 65% of participants sustaining employment, education or training for 26 weeks
    • To recruit and work in partnership with other agencies, organisations and business to facilitate employment, education and training outcomes
    • Monitor and record young people’s progression and engagement using the designated CRM system/s.
    • To deliver weekly Premier League Inspires programme within Secondary Schools
    • Complete all Risk Assessment procedures and protocols using the internal systems.
    • Attend consortium steering group meetings
    • Any other duties as reasonably requested by the line manager / organisation.

After contacting and taking guidance from the Safeguarding Team, staff must use the Club’s Child Protection Online Management System (CPOMS ) to record the concern within 24 hours unless directed to do otherwise

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have skills and experience in the following areas: - Essential (E) Desirable (D)

Education/Qualifications/Experience:

  • Youth Work / Education qualification or equivalent – L4 or above (E)
  • Training or qualification related to learning disabilities and learning difficulties (E)
  • Employability/IAG qualification or similar (D)
  • Safeguarding/Child Protection Training and First Aid (will be provided in post if not already done) (D)
  • Experience of working with young people with learning difficulties and/or disabilities within an education or community setting. (E)
  • Experience with CRM database which manages project information. (D)

Abilities/Skills/Knowledge:

  • Able to use a range of strategies to effectively engage with young people with learning difficulties and/or a learning disability (E)
  • Ability to build a programme curriculum that includes one-to-one support, small group work, and personal development. (E)
  • A meticulous eye for detail and ability to work in a methodical and organised way. (E)
  • Understanding of sector specific short courses and skills packages that will support participants into employment. (D)
  • Ability to relate to young people from a wide range of backgrounds and engage them in meaningful activities. (E)
  • To have a good knowledge of the local community (D)
  • An understanding of safeguarding and health and safety in a youth work setting. (E)
  • Strong commitment to quality service delivery (E)
  • Ability to monitor and evaluate programme delivery and report writing (E)
  • A commitment to supporting young people, and the principles of equality and diversity. (E)
  • A commitment to safeguarding and health and safety. (E)
  • Self-motivated and the ability to work on own initiative. (E)
  • Excellent communication skills including written, telephone and interpersonal skills. (E)
  • Proven planning and organisation skills. (E)
  • IT literate with particular emphasis on Microsoft and Google packages. (D)
