With 72 Member Clubs, it is the largest single body of professional Clubs in European football and is responsible for administering and regulating the Sky Bet EFL, Carabao Cup, Bristol Street Motors Trophy and youth and reserve football.

A vital part of sporting life, both in the UK and across the globe, the EFL operates some of the world’s most competitive, popular and successful football competitions, acting as part of the fabric of life for millions of fans.

About The Role

This is an incredible opportunity to join the Communications Team within the EFL (English Football League). Based in Preston and reporting to the Communications Manager, you will be part of the team that enhances and protects the reputation of the world’s oldest football competition, and raises the profile of the brilliant work being done by EFL clubs both on and off the pitch.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to manage the following key responsibilities

  • Assist the team in delivery of the EFL communications plan by telling the ongoing story of the EFL through securing coverage in regional, national and international media
  • Conduct research on behalf of the Communications Department and present findings in a timely, clear and cohesive manner
  • Help monitor what is being said about the EFL in traditional and online media and ensure all internal stakeholders are adequately briefed in a timely and appropriate manner
  • Attend any meeting/event as required and contribute to the development of the Communications Department
  • Provide support to high-level projects and events across both the Media and PR functions as required
  • Support with delivering all reports and insights
  • Assist in the delivery of drafting of various communications / materials while occasionally supporting EFL content via publications, digital comms and the EFL website
  • Support with support and administration across the PR team
  • Support the Communications Manager and team with any duties as directed
  • Build relationships with Clubs and support our 72 Clubs’ media teams as required
  • Maintain a professional, business-like approach when representing The EFL with both internal and external stakeholders ensuring the reputation of the EFL is maintained and enhanced at all times

Communications Executive – Campaigns & PR

  • Research and identify opportunities that can help enhance the EFL’s reputation in areas of (but not limited to): EFL competitions, Youth Development, Community CSR, etc.
  • Support with delivery of campaigns and PR activity across commercial, corporate and community inc. project planning, and media engagement
  • Project planner management and updating for campaigns and projects
  • Coordinate administrative and logistical elements of events and EFL spokesperson activity
  • Assess opportunities for trade/business PR opportunities including speaking opportunities, podcast interviews or feature stories
  • Content generation including drafting of press releases, website articles, case studies, social media copy to help tell the story of the EFL
  • Regular monitoring of the news agenda to spot potential opportunities or areas of risk
