The Assistant Management Account will work with management to produce effective management accounts and key performance indicators. The postholder will play a key role in maintaining the integrity of financial information within and provided by the Finance Department.

An exciting opportunity has become available for a motivated Assistant Management Accountant to join the Finance Team here at Sheffield United Football Club. The Assistant Management Account will work with management to produce effective management accounts and key performance indicators. The postholder will play a key role in maintaining the integrity of financial information within and provided by the Finance Department.

Role Responsibilities:


  • Help prepare management accounts at month end, ensuring close is delivered in a timely manner (7 days from month end).
  • Be proactive in improving the management information that is produced.
  • Various balance sheet reconciliations to be completed on a monthly basis across all group companies.
  • Month end journals, including strong knowledge of accruals and prepayments.
  • Rolling all reports and backup forward for the following months management accounts.
  • Reconcile commercial contracts to management accounts to ensure all invoicing has been undertaken.
  • Support production of budgets with business knowledge.
  • Import and maintain the budgets (including analytical budget) in GP and FRX when necessary.
  • Prepare and maintain the fixed asset register to include details of vendor, date of acquisition, a clear description of the asset and amount.
  • Maintain monthly tax analysis for year-end audit.
  • Maintain and reconcile intercompany balances / control accounts.
  • Revenue and cost analysis, ensuring costs are captured, variances to budget understood, and reports distributed to budget holders for review.
  • Attend monthly management account meetings with Department Heads and minute the meetings for monthly actions.
  • Provide holiday cover for other roles in the department.
  • Support the Management Accountant in delivering a clean interim and year end audit for both the Football Club and subsidiaries.
  • Assist in Office of National Statistics reporting.
  • Ad hoc reporting.
  • Be a good team player with the transactional finance team and management accounts team and be proactive in ensuring we have accurate records and maintain goods controls on ledgers and on balance sheet accounts.
  • Be aware of who manages each costing line and ensuring they have visibility on all costs coded there.
  • Any other reasonable requests as directed by management.
  • To adhere to all Sheffield United Football Club’s Safeguarding Policies and Procedures to foster an environment which protects from harm those defined as children and adults at risk.
  • To report any concerns of a Safeguarding nature to the relevant parties and remain fully compliant with any applicable Safeguarding checks and due diligence and recognise your responsibility to the Club’s Safeguarding agenda.

  • Any other ad hoc duties as directed by Transactional Finance Manager.

Essential Criteria for the role:


  • A’ Level standard of education.
  • AAT qualification / part qualified CIMA/ACCA (QBE Considered).
  • Purchase Ledger / Sales Ledger.
  • Reconciliations.
  • Management Accounts Preparation.
  • Evidence of working on own initiative.
  • Use of Microsoft Excel / Outlook / Word.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Proactive with the ability to resolve customer concerns to resolution.
  • Desire to improve performance.
  • Good team player.
  • Trustworthy given the nature of the position.

Desirable Criteria for the role:

  • Cash Forecasting.
  • Use of Microsoft Great Plains Accounting Software.
  • Working towards a professional qualification.
