Job Role:

To provide advice, assistance and support to our young people in the Academy House. To take care of their practical, physical and emotional needs. To act as an appropriate role model and to work closely with them to enable them to achieve their optimum potential. To have an overall responsibility for the pastoral care and welfare of the young people in the Academy House and ensure a consistent position of authority.

Key Accountabilities:

  • To provide cover (includes overnight stays) for the Professional Sport’s Carers (PSC’s) at the Academy House throughout the season
  • To lead on outings outside of the Academy House and assist in planning a ‘calendar of events’
  • To assist in planning a ‘calendar of events’
  • To assist in supporting the players emotional, social and practical wellbeing
  • To assist in supporting the players to learn skills for independent living; cooking, cleaning, laundry and money management
  • To liaise with Safeguarding and Player Care to ensure consistency in monitoring players and delivery
  • To raise any welfare concerns to Men’s Academy Head of Safeguarding and Player Care Officers according to the WHUFC procedures
  • To assist in home fixtures as/when needed
  • To attend all training events as necessary and sign up to relevant CPD sessions
  • To support with chaperoning young people off-site to GP/Hospital/Dentist appointments and possible adhoc other player related visits
  • To support with sessions relating to independent living with the APs; cooking, cleaning, general maintenance around the home, bills, etc)
  • To liaise with Academy Safeguarding, Player Care regarding pastoral care and necessary actions on key players/families
  • To attend one home fixture for the U18s/U23s

Safeguarding

Staff must evidence a commitment to the safety and welfare of children, young people and adults at risk regardless of their age, gender, language, religion, ethnic background or sexual identity and ensure the safety and protection of all children, young people and adults at risk taking part in any activity arranged by or in the name of the Club.

It is a requirement for staff to follow the Club’s Safeguarding reporting procedures to report without delay, allegations of abuse, poor practice or which is or may, impact on the welfare of a child, young person, or adult at risk. After contacting and taking guidance from the Safeguarding Team, staff must use the Club’s Child Protection Online Management System (CPOMS) to record the concern within 24 hours unless directed to do otherwise

Employees will be recruited and selected, promoted and trained on the basis of objective criteria.

Person Specification:

The ideal candidate will have skills and experience in the following areas: - Essential (E) Desirable (D)

Education/Qualifications/Experience:

  • Experience working with people and supporting their pastoral (this does not need to be in a football/sporting environment) (E)
  • Youth Work, Teaching, Social Work, Children’s Residential Support Worker or Equivalent (D)
  • Safeguarding Qualification (D)
  • Food Safety Qualification (D)

Abilities/Skills/Knowledge:

  • Flexible working; including overnight stays and weekends
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (E)
  • Ability to work collaboratively with players, their parents and staff members to ensure the best experience is provided to academy players (E)
  • Flexibility with work hours as necessary for the role. (E)
  • A full, clean UK driver’s license with access a vehicle. (D)
  • Flexibility around busy periods for tournament cover, for example school easter holidays (D)
